James McAvoy is set to star in Welcome to the Punch, a thriller set in London due to start filming in July. The film, which also stars Peter Mullan, David Morrissey, Daniel Mays and Johnny Harris. Eran Creevy is the writer-director, and the producers are Rory Aitken, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Ben Pugh of Between the Eyes in London.
Creevy, who has also written the script, described the film as “an epic crime thriller in the mould of Heat or Internal Affairs” and said it was “great to be shooting against the magnificent backdrop of Canary Wharf and modern London. We have a fantastically talented cast and crew, and I can’t wait to start filming”. Creevy got a lot of attention over here for his 2008 micro-budget debut Shifty, which was nominated for a BAFTA.
The script, placed on the 2010 Brit List of best unproduced British screenplays, follows detective Max Lewinsky and his involvement in a pretty massive conspiracy plot.
