Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan is a British actress, born n Westminster, London, England. At the age of three, she moved with her family from England to Germany after her father accepted the job of managing the European arm of a hotel chain. She attended the International School of Düsseldorf in Germany, and for her high school education, from 1999 she attended Woldingham School, Surrey. It was at Woldingham that Carey’s passion for acting was ignited, and rather than go to university she contacted Kenneth Branagh with a view to him becoming her mentor.

Later she approached screenwriter Julian Fellowes with the same offer, and it was Fellowes who advised Carey to audition for director Joe Wright. This would lead to Carey’s big break aged eighteen in the Wright-directed Pride and Prejudice (2005), playing Kitty Bennet alongside Keira Knightley. That same year she appeared, as a recurring role, in the BAFTA award-winning BBC adaption of Charles Dickens Bleak House. In 2007, she made a memorable guest appearance in an episode of Doctor Who, entitled “Blink”.

In 2009, she co-starred alongside Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in Michael Mann’s adaptation of Bryan Burrough’s Public Enemies (2009). Mulligan also appeared in her most notable role of the year, An Education (2009). She played the lead role of Jenny, a bright schoolgirl torn between studying for a place at Oxford and the rather more exciting alternative offered to her by a charismatic older man.
