Born in Middleton, Manchester, Coogan trained as an actor at Manchester Polytechnic
of Theatre, Coogan started his career providing voices for ITV’s satirical
puppet show, Spitting Image. When he began working on BBC radio he introduced
his most famous character, Alan Partridge, to the nation. Alan’s sporting
commentaries on The Day Today gathered a cult following and Steve was soon to
be seen on our TV screens in.
Coogan also scored his own slot on BBC Radio with the spoof chat show,
Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge. Knowing Me, Knowing You
transferred to television to widespread acclaim, and was soon followed
by a hit sequel; I’m Alan Partridge. Steve branched out into film,
taking the lead in both The
Parole Officer (2001) and 24
Hour Party People (2002). Coogan will soon be appearing in a remake
of Jules Vernes Around the World in 80 Days (2003).
