British director Robert Asher began his career as an assistant director
in 1934, working under filmmakers including Anthony
Pelissier, Robert Hamer and Roy
Ward Baker. Asher began directing British comedy films in 1959 starting
with the Norman Wisdom vehicle
Follow
a Star (1959). He took over from John Paddy
Carstairs as the helmsman of the Wisdom films concluding in 1966
with Press for
Time (1966). Away from Wisdom, Asher's only film of note was the
crime caper farce Make
Mine Mink (1960). By the late 60s film work had dried up and Asher
moved into television ad directed episodes of the ITC tv series 'The
Prisoner' and 'The Champions'. He is the brother of cinematographer
Jack Asher.
