In partnership with Sidney Gilliat for
many years Frank Launder was one half of Individual Films, taking it
in turns to direct. He initially joined the story department of BIP
in 1928 and during the thirties wrote such outstanding films as The
Lady Vanishes (1938), Oh
Mr Porter! (1937) and Night
Train to Munich (1940). It is hard to differentiate his style from
that of his partner, apart from the tendency towards broad comedy rather
than the thrillers of the I See a Dark Stranger (1946) and Green
for Danger (1947) mould.
