Plot SynopsisMany believe Anthony Asquith chose his next film subject
as a reaction against his long time collaborator Terence Rattigan. After
eight films with Asquith, Rattigan next worked with David Lean on The
Sound Barrier – Asquith rumour has it burst into tears but nevertheless
wished all concerned success with the film. Asquith chose to base his
next film on the novel The Net by John Pudney, the film tells of a group
of international scientists in the security net of an aviation research
station working on an aeroplane capable of flying at 2000 miles per
hour. Competition between the researchers working on the radical new
aircraft is fierce, there's little love lost amongst the scientists,
but no one expects the personal animosities to result in murder. The
murder was committed by an enemy spy... but which one of the scientists
is the guilty party? Excerpt© 'Puffin Asquith' by R.J. Minney. |
