Plot SynopsisThe scene is set in a South American republic, based
on a book called Act of Mercy, it was scripted by John Mortimer and
produced by Thomas Clyde. It tells of a swift and violent South American
coup which has put the Army revolutionary chief in control and focuses
on the personal crisis of an English planter, emotionally and politically
naive Tom Jordan (David Niven), and his French wife, Claire (Leslie
Caron). The marriage is disintegrating; the wife plans to leave her
