Plot Synopsis The Manxman was Alfred Hitchcock's last silent film,
but alas, another one that Hitchcock considered worthless and banal.
It concerns two men in love with the same woman - Peter, an indigent
fisherman, and Philip, a rich lawyer. Peter proposes to Kate but her
father says no, because the man can't support her. In search of fortune,
he leaves the Isle of Man where the trio lives. Phillip begins to court
Kate after they hear of Peter's reported death, but Peter returns and
she keeps her promise to marry him. She gives birth to a child, but
Philip is the father. The film moves downhill through attempts of suicide,
confessions, and pleas for happiness and rightful family ties for the
child. Extract© Richard A. Harris, Michael S. Lasky: The Complete Films of Alfred Hitchcock. |
