Bear Island – 1979 | 110 mins | Adventurel, Thriller, Drama | Colour
Plot Synopsis

Dismal Canadian-British thriller involving Cold War intrigue and murder that sadly suffers from an almost complete lack of suspense. Loosely adapted from Alistair MacLean’s novel.
Researcher Frank Lansing (Donald Sutherland) has joined a United Nations expedition to study global warming on a remote North Atlantic island deemed off limits by NATO. The scientists end up at the frozen, isolated research station, but when a series of mysterious accidents and murders take place, a whole lot of darker motives become apparent. Lansing’s fortunate discovery of a German U-Boat from World War II loaded with Nazi gold bullion in a derelict submarine pen may hold the key to recent events. They soon find themselves under threat from neo-Nazis who are determined to claim the priceless hoard for themselves.
