Plot Synopsis

Billy Elliot

Set in Durham, 1984, when young Billy Elliot (Jamie Bell) chooses ballet classes over boxing lessons his life is changed forever. He decides to keep the lessons secret from his arrow-minded father, a coal miner in the midst of the bitter miners’ strike. But with the encouragement and tuition of his ballet instructor (Julie Walters), he is persuaded to try out for the Royal Ballet School in London. Billy must make the choice between family responsibilities and his dreams.
