Plot Synopsis

Carry On director Gerald Thomas helms the familiar suburban slapstick in this big-screen spin-off from the popular 70s ITV series as the Abbot family fall out with their pompous new neighbours. Sid James, Diana Coupland and Sally Geeson reprise their roles from the television series with Robin Askwith stepping into the role of dim-witted son Mike and Carry On farceur Peter Butterworth was cast as Sid’s best friend Trevor. Terry Scott and June Whitfield, later to be cast in the long-running sitcoms Happy Ever After and Terry and June, appear as the snobbish new neighbours.
Grouchy Sid Abbott (Sid James) is the middle-class, middle-aged father who doesn’t understand the youth of the day; in particular his own children, brainless Mike and ever-protesting Sally, who both seem keener to attend demos than get a job. His reasons to grumble don’t lessen with his wife’s (Diana Coupland) charity stall attracting an influx of bric-a-brac and the arrival of his new neighbours; snooty Ronald Baines (Terry Baines) and his friendly wife Vera (June Whitfield).
The feuding neighbours are soon drawn together when Baines’s daughter Kate falls for Mike, whilst Sid’s attempts to build an illegal whisky still in the garden shed with best mate Trevor (Peter Butterworth) are rocked by the news that his neighbour works as a tax collector for Customs and Excise alcohol and tobacco.
