Plot Synopsis

Blue Blood

Nobility chiller based on Alexander Thynne’s psychological novel The Carry-Cot, and starring Oliver Reed as a sinister butler plotting to gain the upper hand over the effete employer he despises. This reworking of Harold Pinter’s The Servant is heavy-handed and the horror treatment ensures laugh rather than chills. Scenery-chewing Oliver Reed puts his brutish looks and menacing presence to good effect, whilst Derek Jacobi is suitably fete but frustratingly anonymous.

A German nanny, Beata (Meg Wynn Owen) is engaged at Swanbrook Mansion to look after the children of an aristocrat Lord Gregory(Derek Jacobi). Tom (Oliver Reed ), the butler is given total responsibility for the household while his master experiments with drugs and debauchery. Consequently,he gets up to all sorts of nefarious business inducing bizarre black magic and terrifying dreams to unseat his degenerate employer. Beata attempts to warn her new employers about Tom’s machinations but her words fall on deaf ears.
