Plot Synopsis

Bronco Bullfrog

This strong antidote to the classless 1960sis a pessimistic look at the other side of `swinging London’ and a group of teenagerswhose futures are as bleak as the landscape. Made by editor turned directorBarney Platts-Mills on a shoestring budget of just £17,000, this slice of authenticsocial realism was a major achievement and is fittingly highly-praised for its understatedstoryline and direction. A cast of non-professionals is led by the impressive SamShepherd as the eponymous Bronco, and Del Walker pugnaciously stealing theacting honours.

Set in London’s East End, 17-year-old DelQuant (Del Walker) is a welder’s apprentice who relieves the boredom of everydaylife with a trio of working class friends by engaging in petty crime andmisdemeanours. Del embarks on a half-hearted relationship with his 15-year-old girlfriend(Anne Gooding), and they subsequently run away together to live with fugitive borstalboy Bronco (Sam Shepherd).
