Plot Synopsis

Caste

Modernised version of an old comedy play about an aristocratic Guards officer who marries a ballet dancer, Polly (Hermione Baddeley), against his family’s wishes, daughter of an old reprobate whose passions is for beer and horses. The officer deserts his new wife and goes to war, where his is presumed killed in action. Meanwhile, his wife returns to her old neighbourhood and gives birth to a child. Several years pass before her husband returns, very much alive.
