Plot Synopsis

Circus

Circus is a modern crime thriller set in Brighton, a darkly humorous tale about con man Leo Garfield (John Hannah), who is hired to kill a businessman’s wife Gloria (Amanda Donohoe). To make matters worse, Leo owes £2million to the Inland Revenue, and is continually threatened with grievous bodily harm by bookie Troy (Eddie Izzard) due to Leo’s bad luck with horses. Also the former associate of his wife Lily (Famke Janssen) has just arrived in town hungry for revenge. Leo swears to Lily that he’s got a plan to net a big windfall and let them both retire in luxury. From the very beginning everyone is double-crossing somebody, and there are countless red herrings. All questions are eventually answered to clear the confusion but this remains an incoherent, poorly directed film.
