Cover Girl Killer
Cover Girl Killer – 1959 | 60 mins | Thriller | B&W
Plot Synopsis

Cover Girl Killer was directed and written by Terry Bishop for Butchers, the simple and effective crime-drama displays a plot elevating it above standard b-feature fare. Set in the sleazy world of a backstreet 50s nightclub. A serial-killer is believed to be murdering the models of glamour magazine Wow!, when cover-girl Gloria Starke (Milnes), is found dead after going on an assignment with mysterious bespectacled TV producer, Spendosa, Inspector Brunner (Brooks) is put on the case to interview all concerned. Also investigating the murders is the tawdry magazine’s publisher, Mason (Teakle), who is interested in using the police investigation as a feature article.
In Torquay, a second girl, Joy Adams (Gregg), is employed for a modelling assignment with a man being a remarkable resemblance to Spendosa, and is later found dead. When Mason has difficulty recruiting cover-girls for future editions of his magazine, the police hit upon the idea of using peroxide-blonde model June Rawson (Young) as bait to trap the killer. The killer manages to dupe the police and confront June in her dressing room, demanding she be dressed in similar clothing to her spread for Wow! magazine. Ultimately, ‘The Man’ (Corbett), is exposed as a mad puritanical crusader intent on making the world a better place by bumping-off glamour models. The police finally corner the baddie on a suspended platform high above the nightclub whilst he holds a scantily clad June hostage – a rope-pull by quick-witted Mason manages to save the day.
