Plot Synopsis

Crime Unlimited

Vigourous quota-quickie crime-drama based on David Hume ‘Cardby’ thriller novels. German born actress Lilli Palmer made her screen debut opposite co-star Esmond Knight.

A gang of thieves are preying on high society London jewellers,and the press suspect it is the work of the notorious Maddick Gang. When a CID officer investigating the case is found murdered with the name Maddick on a piece of paper in his possession, Scotland Yard try to think of a new approach to infiltrating the criminal network.

A young recruit from the Police College, Pete Borden (Esmond Knight), is assigned to infiltrate the gang, and after visiting a nightclub owned by Delaney (Raymond Lovell), he meets the chess-playing criminal mastermind. However, Maddick prefers never to be seen face-to-face and deliver his messages by intercom. Borden also becomes interested in Natacha (Lilli Palmer), a Russian-born gangsters moll and reluctant member of the gang. Eventually,Borden is uncovered and meets Maddick face-to-face.
