Plot Synopsis

Devil Girl from Mars

The Danziger Brothers Devil Girl from Mars is a low-budget reworking of the seminal American sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still(1951), directed by David Macdonald from a screenplay by James Eastwood and John C. Maher. This cult pleasure has a great sense of the kitsch and a preposterous plot, all claustrophobically confined within a small inn, but the film’s sub-plots, S&M iconography and hilarious dialogue make the Devil Girl a triumph of trashiness.

A Martian woman alien, Nyah (Patricia Laffan), and her robot Chani visit a remote Scottish inn and attempt to abduct healthy males specimens. The diverse collection of people staying at the inn include ProfessorHennessey (Joseph Tomelty) and journalist Michael (Hugh McDermott), innkeeper Mrs Jamieson (Sophie Stewart) and her husband Jamie (John Laurie), plucky nephew Tommy (Anthony Richmond), escaped convict Albert (Peter Reynolds) and his barmaid girlfriend (Adrienne Corri), and attractive London model Ellen Prestwick (Hazel Court).

Suddenly the tranquillity is broken by a white-hot flying saucer landing, and leather-clad Nyah disembarks. The first person to approach the vessel is disabled David (James Edmund), but he is speedily vaporised as not being a suitable subject for Nyah’s eugenics programme. Nyah takes young Tommy as her chosen example, but Albert offers to take his place asa willing subject.
