Plot Synopsis

Down Among the Z Men

Zany military romp with musical interludes uniting all four founder members of The Goon Show. The absurd plot is entertaining enough for fans, but the gang could have benefited greatly from a larger budget and the use of their original radio scriptwriters.

West Country grocer’s assistant and amateur detective Harry Jones (Harry Secombe) is duped by two shifty foreign agents into trailing eccentric Professor Purehart (Michael Bentine), an absent minded scientist who has just invented the bicarbonate bomb. Jones follows Ozrix to Warwell atomic research station and gets inadvertently conscripted into the army; the remainder of the Z men contingent is made up of Major Bloodnok (Peter Sellers), .gormless Private Eccles (Spike Milligan) and attractive MI5 agent Carole Gayley (Carole Carr).
