Plot Synopsis

Duffy

Slipshod modish 60s crime caper directed by jobbinghelmer Robert Parrish and surprisingly co-written by Performance (1970)writer/director Donald Cammell. The result is an unfocused swinging heist film whichlacks suspense and a cohesive plot. An excellent cast was assembled but JamesCoburn in particularly looks bemused by the hip talk, and only John Alderton,as a square mild-mannered office-boy, looks well cast.

A stoical banker, Charles Calvert (James Mason),intends to transfer £1million cash by sea to Zurich. Calvert has two sons;layabout playboy Stefane (James Fox) and lowly-paid office employee Antony (JohnAlderton), both of whom he understandably has little respect for and treatdisdainfully. The two brothers decide to unite and ‘get even’ by hatching a cunning and audacious plan to steal the money en-route. They recruittwo associates;  Stefane’s on/offgirlfriend Segolene (Susannah York) and sailor/adventurer Duffy (James Coburn). The money is due to travel from Tangier to Zurich in the safe of a liner, andthe quartet has an original plan for modern day piracy..
