Plot Synopsis

George Formby‘s fourth film for Basil Dean’s ATP atEaling isn’t amongst his best, but mildly enjoyable nonetheless. Feather YourNest is one of over a dozen British films from prolific American director WilliamBeaudine, who moved to England in the mid-1930s following the Great Depression,then returned following the outbreak of WWII. Formby sings "Leaning on aLamppost," which actually did become a hit.
Assistant sound recordist Willie Piper (George Formby)and Mary Taylor (Polly Ward) work at the local recording studio, MonarchGramophone Co, are in the process of buying a home and getting married; much toher pub landlady Ma’s opposition. Willie needs to get a 5/- week rises tofulfil their dreams but his employers refuse. A popular crooner, Rex Randall, withouteven a contract records Leaning on a Lampost for the studio, but clumsy Willie dropsand shatters the irreplaceable wax master.
To cover up his mistake, Willie sneaks into the studiolate one night and replaces the broken record with one of his own voice.Naturally enough, the record is released and becomes the best-selling record ofthe year. Meanwhile, Willie is sacked for another ham-fisted accident and thedebt-collectors are at the door to remove his furniture.
