Plot Synopsis

It's a Great Day

Comedy mystery based on the hugely popular 1950s BBC television soap opera The Grove Family. This cheaply produced Butcher’s feature-length version now looks a celluloid artefact of cultural interest only.

Building contractor, Bob Grove (Edward Evans), after seeking the advice of his son Jack, recruits the services of a spiv Charlie Mead (Victor Maddern) to help him obtain some Italian floor tiles so he can complete work on a new council housing estate. But things turn sour when Grove is suspected of stealing the tiles from a local supply depot, and his family are no longer invited to attend the royal opening of the housing estate. The police interview Jack and he leads them to Charlie Mead – who denies any knowledge of the theft. Grove is eventually cleared of the theft, and his family informed the princess would like to visit their home for tea. Before her visit chaos ensues as the younger members of the family get themselves into various scrapes.
