Man About the House – 1974 | 90 mins | Comedy | Colour

Plot Synopsis

Man About the House

Comedy spin-off from the long-running 1970s ITV television series of the same name. The film retains the original cast but like most sitcom spin-offs it struggles to maintain the humour when opened out over the length of a feature and Man About the House the series has not particularly aged well. The token plot about property developers purely an excuse for the characters will-they-won’t-they relationships and bawdy skits. There are especially excellent performances from Paula Wilcox and Yootha Joyce whilst Richard O’Sullivan is suitably lively. There are fine comedic cameos from Spike Milligan, Arthur Lowe and Bill Maynard.

A randy male catering student, Robin Tripp (Richard O’Sullivan), platonically shares a London flat with two girls; the quick-thinking Chrissy (Paula Wilcox) and dipsy Jo (Sally Thomsett). In the flat below are the trio’s landlords, sex-starved landlady Mildred (Yootha Joyce) and her impotent husband George (Brian Murphy). The residents of the street are united when an unscrupulous property developer Morris Pluthero (Peter Cellier) threatens to buy up the houses and demolish them.
