No Kidding
No Kidding – 1960 | 86 mins | Comedy | B&W
Plot Synopsis

Dreary whimsical comedy from the Carry On crew of producer Peter Rogers, director Gerald Thomas and writer Norman Hudis. Unfortunately the whole film is an exercise in clichéd predictability and sorely misses the reliable farceurs frequently employed by the Carry On team. Leslie Phillips and Geraldine McEwan play the couple at the centre of the plot; Joan Hickson is their socially responsible cook, inebriated gardener Noel Purcell and Irene Handl the pesky local busybody.
A young, married couple, David (Leslie Phillips) and Catherine Robinson (Geraldine McEwan), inherit a rundown estate and decide to turn it into a holiday home for children of rich parents. After advertising in The Times, Chartham Place soon fills up with the spoilt offspring of oil sheikhs, diplomats, royals and sundry millionaires. Opposition comes in the form of Mrs. Spicer (Irene Handl), who wishes to compulsory purchase the premises and turn it into a home for underprivileged local children. David espouses a firm but fair approach to parenting whilst Catherine suggests the children be allowed the freedom they never benefit from at home; until both agree to compromise. When the parents return to collect their children at the end of summer – the kids refuse to budge unless they’re shown more love and respect in the future.
