Plot Synopsis

One Way Out

Unassuming British B-thriller directed by Francis Searle and starring Irish actor Eddie Byrne as a police superintendent on a mission to clear his daughter’s name. This second-feature went out in support of the Norman Wisdom comedy Man of the Moment and like many similar b-movies of the time is marred by weak writing and a plot that is never credible for a moment. The cast put all the effort they can in attempting to make this nonsense communicable to an audience.

Hardworking cop Supt. Harcourt (Eddie Byrne) is on the verge of retiring from the police force after twenty-five years service. One of his concluding cases involves the death of a girlfriend of ruthless fence Danvers (John Chandos). Danvers attempts to buy-off Harcourt for £1,000, but when this fails he blackmails the veteran superintendent into dropping his investigations by using one of his smooth-talking fellow crooks, Leslie Parrish (Lyndon Brook),to implicate the cop’s daughter, Shirley (Jill Adams), in a robbery. Harcourt subsequently quits the force, but the former officer then continues his efforts to convict Danvers as a civilian.
