Plot Synopsis

LiVernon Sylvaine’s successful stage play istransferred to the screen here with few changes. The comic theme of classdivide is explored as the daughter of a reputable solicitor falls for the sonof a shady greyhound owner.
Humphrey Proudfoot (Robertson Hare) is aclass-conscious solicitor whose 19-year-old daughter falls in love with the sonof a disreputable greyhound owner Alfred Gilbey (Stanley Holloway) who lives inthe same block of flats. After Humphrey fails to convince his daughter not tomarry the young Gilbey, he decides to employ a private investigator in order todig up some dirt on the womanising gambler. But his sneaky shenanigans backfirewhen Gilbey turns the tables and discovers Proudfoot s first love Emily (IreneHandl). When Emily turns up at the same time as Gilbey s mistress Gloria, thetwo men suddenly find themselves on the same side as they struggle to keeptheir two women away from their wives.
