Plot Synopsis

Owd Bob

Well-directed and affecting Cumberland drama from the novel by Alfred Olivant that was remade ten years later as Bob, Son of Battle (1947). Owd Bob, also known as To the Victor, was itself a remake of Henry Edwards 1924 silent film.

Quarrelsome elderly Scottish farmer Adam McAdam (Will Fyffe) finds his life complicated when David Moore (John Loder), his neighbour newly arrived from Derbyshire enters his sheepdog, Owd Bob, in the annual sheepdog trials against the farmer’s dog Black Wull. At the same time, McAdam’s attractive daughter Jennie (Margaret Lockwood) his daughter takes a liking to the neighbour.
