Please Sir
Please Sir – 1971 | 100 mins | Comedy | Colour
Plot Synopsis

Shambolic comedy Inspired by the Sidney Poitier feature To Sir, with Love, and based on the amusing ITV television series telling of the adventures of a young schoolmaster and his unruly pupils that ran for four years from 1968. Like most big-screen sitcom spin-offs, Please Sir struggles to sustain the humour over the 100 minutes running time, and an outdoor location devoid of amenities and comic possibilities results in few funny moments. John Alderton is typically good as the put-upon form teacher, whilst Joan Sanderson, Deryck Guyler and Richard Davies provide strong support. The ageing teens of the original class of 5Cwere all ready to depart for their own series, The Fenn Street Gang.
Mr Hedges and other teachers take 5C for a two-week stay in the countryside at a special Outdoor Centre. Bussed away from Fenn Street School to a dingy holiday camp, the unruly pupils wreak havoc whilst their teacher finds love in the shape of Penny, a local barmaid.
