Ramsbottom Rides Again – 1956 | 92 mins | Comedy | B&W

Plot Synopsis

Ramsbottom Rides Again

A laboured and overlong parody on the American westerns Destry Rides Again, with Arthur Askey at the centre of lots of good-natured, juvenile fun. Sid James gets in some practice for his later role as the Rumpo Kid in Carry On Cowboy, and Norman Wisdom‘s nemesis Jerry Desmonde features as an Indian named Blue Eagle. Frankie Vaughan is also on hand to contribute a duet with Shani Wallis

Bull and Cow publican Bill Ramsbottom (Arthur Askey) is struggling to sell beer in his Yorkshire pub after following the advice of his best friend and barman Charlie; and now all his regulars watch tv rather than buying pints. Unexpectedly he receives a telegram from Canada offering him the opportunity to claim an inheritance from his granddad, Wild Bill. So Arthur and his family pack their bags and head across the Atlantic for a fresh start, but Arthur and Charlie are charged with being stowaways and have to work their passage.

Once in Canada they dock at St John’s, and head to the ranch they inherited from Bill’s grandfather in Lonesome. One of the obligations of his new inheritance is that Bill becomes deputy of Lonesome, which brings him into direct conflict with grizzled outlaw Black Jake (Sid James).
