Revolver – 2005 |115 mins | Thriller | Colour
Plot Synopsis

Revolver is Guy Ritchie’s return to the crime genre and long-awaited follow-up to the fiasco that was Swept Away. Revolver is a humourless, leaden and incoherent car-crash of a movie. Worst of all, it’s a mind-bogglingly pretentious car-crash that’s not half as clever as it thinks it is. The fractured and indecipherable plot wants to be The Usual Suspects but wildly misses the mark and the overuse of a philosophising voiceover quickly begins to grate. One should admire Guy Ritchie for his ambition and the handful of well-crafted action sequences, but in the storytelling stakes he has overstretched himself and fails to craft a coherent thriller.
Hotshot Las Vegas gambler Jake Green (Jason Statham) always ran with a bad crowd and it cost him seven years in jail. After his release,Jake is rarely allowed to play in the casinos because he’s a winner. Jake has taken in so much money, in fact, that he’s the only client of his accountant and older brother, Billy. Now he is ready to take his revenge against crime boss and casino owner Dorothy Macha (Ray Liotta), the man responsible for his jail time.
Jake publicly humiliates Macha at his casino in a game of chance. Macha fearing more of the same medicine sends his goons to”take care of” Jake. His life is saved by enigmatic Zack (Vincent Pastore) who, with his equally inscrutable partner Avi (André Benjamin), offer Jake protection. Against his better judgement, Jake accepts. He soon finds himself playing the very last game he wants to be playing, and there is danger at every turn. But the biggest danger of all comes from a totally unexpected source.
