Plot Synopsis

Sailor Beware

Raucous mother-in-law comedy based on the  long-running Strand Theatre stage success by Philip King and Falkland Cary. British character actress Peggy Mount got her film break when the stage farce transferred to the big screen and she dominates the proceedings despite some scene-stealing from the peerless Esma Cannon.

Able seaman Albert Tufnell (Ronald Lewis) suffers a major attack of cold feet on the eve of his wedding to fiancée Shirley (Shirley Eaton) when he realises just what he’s getting into with Emma Hornet (Peggy Mount) – the potential mother-in-law from hell. She terrorises her prospective son-in-law and his best man (Gordon Jackson), and hen-pecked hubby Henry (Cyril Smith) seeks solace by spending so much time with his ferrets.
