Plot Synopsis

San Ferry Ann

Another in the spate of wordless comedies released during the 1960s and 70s; this one is reminiscent of Innocents in Paris (1953) and from the producers of A Home of Your Own (1964). The cast boasts experienced farceurs Wilfred Brambell, Warren Mitchell, Ron Moody, Joan Sims and Barbara Windsor going through a series of slapstick holiday stereotypes.

A collection of British tourists take the Dover to Calais ferry and get involved in various misadventures on the French mainland. The group involve a pair of shy lovers (Rodney Bewes and Catherine Feller) who attempt to disguise their amour by renting two hotel rooms but the knowing owner is certainly not fooled. Also on the ferry are a typical family of holidaymakers in a Dormobile (Wilfrid Brambell, David Lodge and Joan Sims) who create havoc throughout Calais and the nearby camping site – much to the annoyance of the local gendarme (Graham Stark). Meanwhile, Granddad (Brambell) runs into a German war veteran (Ron Moody) in a war memorabilia room and old rivalries are resurrected. Lastly are two hitchhikers, a busty female (Barbara Windsor) and her dippy companion (Ronnie Stevens).
