The Bank Raiders – 1958 | 62 mins | Crime | B&W

Plot Synopsis

The Bank Raiders

Dreary British ‘B’ crime thriller about an inexperienced bank robber who spends his ill-gotten gains too quickly and attracts the attention of the police. Television and b-movie stalwart Peter Reynolds is reliable yet torpid and both the spivish Sydney Tafler and voluptuous Sandra Dorne are underused.

Bank robbers Bernie Shelton (Sydney Tafler) and his henchman Linders (Arthur Mullard) hire playboy petty-crook Terry Milligan (Peter Reynolds) to be getaway driver on their next robbery. The raid doesn’t pass off entirely successfully as Linders fatally injuries a member of staff and an eyewitness sees Milligan.

Instead of lying low, the swaggering Milligan hits the town with good-time girl Della (Sandra Dorne) to celebrate and draws attention to himself by flashing his money around. The police arrest Milligan on suspicion the following day and schedule an identity parade with eyewitness Connor (Tim Ellison), but the crooks kidnap his fiancée to ensure his silence. Linders attempts to silence Milligan for good, but Terry escapes and seeks refuge with Della. She allows him to stay, but only if he agrees to confront Shelton.
