Plot Synopsis

Stagey melodramatic film adapted from a novel by Claude Farrere, set during the Japanese/Russian war, the film features some vivid battle scenes.
Set in Japan in the early 1900s, Japanese naval fleet commander, the Marquis Yorisaka (Charles Boyer) forces his vulnerable wife Marquise (Merle Oberon) to seduce British naval attaché Fergan (John Loder) in order to obtain strategic maritime secrets. But the Marquise and Fergan fall in love and the British triumph. Fergan dies in an explosion and Yorisaka commits suicide due to the dishonour he has brought upon himself.
