The Broken
The Broken – 2008 | 88 mins | Horror | Colour
Plot Synopsis

Director Sean Ellis’ follow-up to Cashback is a flawed psychological chiller which draws on Sung-ho Kim’s Geoul sokeuro (2003) for inspiration. Ellis’s produces some interesting imagery and striking cold, grey visuals but plotwise The Broken is enigmatic, without adequate explanation and ultimately unsatisfying. The cast are barely-even-one-dimensional characters and Heady is left flailing with unconvincing lines.
Mirrors shatter successful radiologist Gina McVey (Lena Heady) walks by, and her life spirals out of control when she sees the spitting image of herself driving down a London street. Shaken, she takes her mind off the road and collides head-on with a black cab. While attempting to uncover who the doppelganger could be her psychosis deepens and she stumbles into a terrifying mystery that her family and closest friends are somehow involved in, leaving her with no one she can trust.
