The Gelignite Gang
The Gelignite Gang – 1956 | 74 mins | Crime | B&W
Plot Synopsis

Routine B-movie crime thriller this raises it above the clichéd featuring burly imported American actor Wayne Morris.
American detective Jimmy Baxter (Wayne Morris) is hired by an insurance company to investigate ‘The Gelignite Gang’, a notorious gang of safe-breakers responsible for a crime-wave in London. The only clue Baxter has is that the criminal mastermind behind the robberies is known as ‘Mr G’. Baxter seeks the help of underworld figure and Soho nightclub owner Mr. Popoulos (Eric Pohlmann), and becomes further interested when one of Popoulos head waiter winds up dead after seeking to inform on the safe-breaking gang.
At the Green Dragon nightclub, Baxter observes a young employee of Harfords jewellers, Chris Chapman (James Kenney), spending freely and his curiosity is aroused when Lady Wilshaw’s diamonds are stolen from his employers that evening. Chapman is attempting to blackmail a pawnbroker involved with the gang, ‘Pop’ Scobie (Arthur Young), but is murdered by Scobie. Whilst the police are rounding up the gang, the mysterious ‘Mr G’ is kidnapping Baxter’s fiancé and planning his escape.
