Plot Synopsis

The Huggetts Abroad is the fourth and final instalmentin a small series chroniclingthe misadventures of the working class Huggett family during post-warausterity. The films are a goldmine for social historians, and still offer adegree of charming and sentimental entertainment.
Already fed up with rain, rationing and drabness, the Huggettfamily resolved to follow Jimmy (Jimmy Hanley) and Jane (Dinah Sheridan) inmaking a new start in South Africa when Joe Huggett (Jack Warner) resigns fromCampbell’s. The family decide to trek overland to Johannesburg in an old armytruck, and take along Canadian Bob McCoy (Hugh McDermott) to help share theexpense. Unbeknown to the Huggett’s, fellow passenger Bob is a diamondsmuggler. They also make the mistake of hooking up nasty fellow Brit, Straker,who interferes with the lorry compass and sends the family into the desert andlow on petrol. The crook is later captured, and the family, exasperated andhomesick, return to England.
