Plot Synopsis

Ben Palmer, director of the second series of Channel 4’s lewd sixth-form sitcom ‘The Inbetweeners’, takes the TV smash series to the big screen as Jay, Will, Neil and Simon head off to the hedonist’s paradise of Malia. Unfortunately, like most sitcom-to-feature crossovers the snappy delivery of the half-hour format struggles to transfer the laddish humour to a feature-length movie. Like Kevin and Perry Go Large (2000) there’s no story to speak of, and it mainly involves typically clichéd gross-out situations involving the four thrill-seeking lads in lecherous and alcohol-fuelled awkwardness.

Bespectacled nerd Will (Simon Bird), mouthy know-it-all Jay (James Buckley) and harmless dimwit Neil (Blake Harrison) decide to help lovelorn friend Simon (Joe Thomas) recover from his latest jilting by ex-girlfriend Carli (Emily Head) by heading off to Malia for a lad’s holiday. The socially inadequate quartet from suburban London get a taste of things to come as soon as they set foot in their ghastly holiday apartment block. Thereafter, their hormonal insecurities are exposed on the beer-and-birds sunshine resort but the strength of their friendship sweetly shines through.
