The Large Rope
The Large Rope – 1953 | 72 mins | Crime, Drama | B&W
Plot Synopsis

Low-budget drama depicting the mischief caused by rumour and suspicion in a close-knit village when an ex-con returns. Donald Houston gives one of his better performances as the ex-convict no sooner out of jail than suspected of murder.
Embittered ex-convict Tom Penney (Donald Houston) returns to his home village after being released from prison after serving three years for an assault he didn’t commit. He immediately traces the witnesses who falsely gave evidence against him, Amy Jordan and Jeff Stribling, but his anger dissipates and instead of revenge he just wishes to move on and lead a peaceful, hard working life elsewhere.
His return coincides with the marriage of Jeff to Tom’s former girlfriend, Sue (Susan Shaw), though she is still secretly in love with her ex. When the flirtatious Amy is found murdered, Tom becomes the obvious chief suspect of murdering local girl.
