Plot Synopsis

The Tenth Man

British drama skilfully adapted from the play by W. Somerset Maugham, starring John Lodge as a ruthless businessman who rises to the top of his field by adopting various methods to destroy his competitors.

George Winter (John Lodge) is an unscrupulous self-made businessman who values success more than anything. His wife Catherine (Antoinette Cellier) intends on divorcing him for her lover Robert Colby, but with the scandal potentially damaging to his Middlepool election campaign, George blackmails his wife into staying with him. When Jim Ford threatens to expose one of his shady gold mine deals, and won’t be bought off, Winter commits suicide unaware that the mine he thought was worthless had just struck gold.
