Plot Synopsis

Tommy the Toreador

Lively and enjoyable lightweight musical comedystarring Tommy Steele as a seaman in Spain who takes the place of abullfighter. Steele, a former merchant seaman, produces an energeticperformance interspersed with a nicely varied collection of songs including theTop 10 chart hit Little White Bull. Support comes from Janet Munro’s attractivepresence and a host of comedy cameos from familiar faces including SidneyJames, Eric Sykes, Bernard Cribbins and Kenneth Williams.

Young seafarer Tommy Tomkins (Tommy Steele) docks inSpain, and whilst returning to his ship he breaks the fall or renownedbullfighter Parilla. When the bullfighter is set up by a bunch of smugglers totake the rap for their crimes, Tomkins is persuaded by crooked bullfightpromoters Cadena (Sid James) and Paco (Bernard Cribbins) to stand in for Parillaas the ‘English Matador’. Tomkins hopes to win a fortune as the stand-in toreadorand get back to England with girlfriend Amanda (Janet Munro).
