Plot Synopsis

Tommy the Toreador

Lively and enjoyable lightweight musical comedy starring Tommy Steele as a seaman in Spain who takes the place of a bullfighter. Steele, a former merchant seaman, produces an energetic performance interspersed with a nicely varied collection of songs including the Top 10 chart hit Little White Bull. Support comes from Janet Munro‘s attractive presence and a host of comedy cameos from familiar faces including Sid James, Eric Sykes, Bernard Cribbins and Kenneth Williams.

Young seafarer Tommy Tomkins (Tommy Steele) docks in Spain, and whilst returning to his ship he breaks the fall or renowned bullfighter Parilla. When the bullfighter is set up by a bunch of smugglers to take the rap for their crimes, Tomkins is persuaded by crooked bullfight promoters Cadena (Sid James) and Paco (Bernard Cribbins) to stand in for Parillaas the ‘English Matador’. Tomkins hopes to win a fortune as the stand-in toreador and get back to England with girlfriend Amanda (Janet Munro).
