Plot Synopsis

Trouble Brewing

A hangover from from the films made at Ealing before Michael Balcon succeeded Basil Dean was this vehicle for George Formby, George plays a newspaper compositor with dreams of becoming a detective, George unmasks a gang of counterfeiters after a big win on the horses, unfortunately he is paid off in counterfeit bills. To avoid the long arm of the law, Formby sets about collaring the crooks himself, whose leader also happens to be the newspapers editor. The films title comes from the fact the crooks end up in a brewery falling into giant vats of fermenting liquid. This film also saw a first appearance of Googie Withers for the Balcon led Ealing, she was to become one of their most established and popular female stars.
