Plot Synopsis

SCompetent WWII propaganda flag-waver that is moreengaging than the majority of wartime b-movies but its primary interest todayis in its cast and crew. Richard Greene was seconded from the Army and co-starValerie Hobson was gaining in popularity after support roles in a number ofAlexander Korda productions. Both get splendid support from character actorsBasil Radford, Roland Culver and Miles Malleson. Cinematographer BernardKnowles and AD Michael Anderson would both go on to be established directors intheir own rights.
English war correspondent Bob Randall (Richard Greene)returns from Dunkirk beach to write a story for the Gazette newspaper blasting theLondon-based People for Peace pacifist organization, but the story is killed bya government official, Lamb (Basil Radford). Instead a tamer story by Bob’scolleague, fashion reporter Carol Bennett (Valerie Hobson), is run in thenewspaper.
As the first bombs of the Blitz begin to hit London,Bob attempts to find out why his story was censored, and discovers Nazi spiesare using the peace organisation to spread rumour, panic and disaffection. AsCarol shelters in the London underground she meets Trapes, the leader of thepacifist group, who realizes he has been duped amidst the German planes bombingcivilian targets, and he tries to get his story to the newspapers. Before thestory can get out, Trapes is kidnapped by the head of the Nazi sympathizers, Stannard(Roland Culver).
