Up the Junction
Up the Junction – 1967 | 118 mins | Drama | Colour
Plot Synopsis

Based on a successful novel by Nell Dunn, Up the Junction was first turned into a BBC television play in 1965. The film stars Suzy Kendall as Polly, a middle-class girl from Chelsea who becomes bored with her plush lifestyle and decides to move to Battersea, a deprived area of London. Polly gets a flat and begins working in factory, while there she becomes friends with co-workers Rube (Adrienne Posta) and Sylvie (Maureen Lipman), two sisters. Polly begins dating hard-up Peter (Dennis Waterman), who dreams of becoming rich and leaving Battersea forever. Polly discovers the seedier side of life when Rube becomes pregnant by her boyfriend, and due to abortion being illegal at the time she must visit a back-street abortionist.
