Vote for Huggett

The third in the series about the adventures of the endearing cockney family finds skulduggery nearly wrecks Joe Hugget’s chances of election as a local councillor.. All were directed by Ken Annakin, with a regular castled by the wonderful Jack Warner and Kathleen Harrison as the parents. Susan Shaw and Petula Clark filled the role of their daughters, and in this instalment the supporting cast included Peter Hammond, David Tomlinson, Diana Dors and Anthony Newley.

 Joe Huggett (Jack Warner), writes to the local Advertiser newspaper proposing the war memorial be a pleasure garden and lido on land alongside the river part-owned by his wife, Ethel (Kathleen Harrison). Local councillor Hall (Charles Victor) is proposing an alternative scheme for a community centre on land he part-owns and will make a killing on, and puts up his dim-witted nephew Harold Hinchley (David Tomlinson) as a stooge in the forthcoming by election to help win the contract.Also interested is Susan Huggett’s (Susan Shaw) employer, Maurice Lever (Hubert Gregg) and his partner Theo Wilson (Norman Shelley), who persuades Joe to stand-in the by-election. What they don’t tell Mr Huggett is that they’re underhandedly trying to purchase his wife’s land. Ma Huggett is unwavering in her refusal to sell, but her niece, Diana (Diana Dors), forges her aunt’s signature on the deal and gets Joe into a fix.
