Plot Synopsis

Woman Hater

A creaky and witless romantic farce that squanders thetalented cast available and advances to a predictable finale.

Misogynist peer and determined bachelor, Lord Terence Datchett(Stewart Granger), is perturbed by the arrival of French film star ColetteMarly (Edwige Feuillère), especially when she seems to inadvertently ruin hisevening out. When Datchett reads that Colette is ‘bored with men’ and seekingonly quite seclusion in England, the landed gentleman suspects it is apublicity stunt. He sets himself up as a guinea pig by posing as an estateagent and offering Marly the haven of his immense estate in the countryside,and then sets out to prove a point by courting her.

Together with his pithy butler, Jameson (Ronald Squire),Datchet engages in a battle of wits and numerous botched schemes to seduceColette, but ultimately she proves that she is sincere and only wishes to bealone. When Colette discovers Datchett’s deception, she decides to teach him alesson.
