Some pictures from the opening titles of the 1950's TV series Champion The Wonder Horse, Champion's real life owner was Gene Autry.

As Alexandra Bastedo is running her Animal Sanctuary for nearly 30 years now, we think she deserves some credit here as well. See below two pictures with some of her animals:

For anyone interested, she has a well made website with loads of information. And she also writes a blog with regular updates:

Apologies for my earlier mistake. I didn't think that was Laurence Naismith with Bobby, but embarassed myself by saying it was Donald Crisp, who I later recognised in some of the lobby card pictures. Wish I hadn't posted it now! But it's the photo with Walt Disney I was most pleased to discover. I like the first one of Alexandra Bastedo with the cat. I'll be off to post some captures at her thread after this post.

    As promised ...

Hazel Court with her cat Mixie:

    Date credited: 7th September 1953

    (Topical Press Agency/Getty Images)

The rest were found on Dr. Macro's site and are reduced from the original size

Alfred Hitchcock with his dog, which I've discovered is a Sealyham Terrier*:

    Ann-Margret with a cat:

    Jean Arthur with a dog:

A pity I can't find out the names of some of these animals, or even if they belong to the Stars

    * I got this information from a Hubpages forum where someone asked about the same picture.

Is anyone else good at identifying breeds or rare animals, such as Anne Francis' Ocelot cub?

So do I! I wonder what directions Hitch was giving him/her.

Another famous film Dog was Toto in The Wizard Of Oz, Toto was played by Terry the Dog (1933-1944) and was a Cairn Terrier, Terry the Dog appeared in 13 different films but was only credited in the one, because of the popularity of The Wizard Of Oz Terry's name was changed to Toto in 1942.

What about Michael Powell's golden cocker spaniels Erik & Spangle? They had uncredited appearances in Contraband (1940), The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943), 'I Know Where I'm Going!' (1945) and A Matter of Life and Death (1946). Their credits are listed in the IMDb

Thanks for the suggestions. This is the best I could do I'm afraid ...

From I Know Where I'm Going (Do you know which one's which?):

I only remember one dog in A Matter of Life and Death and he doesn't resemble either:

With David Niven (I had to include one Star in this post):

A much clearer shot of the spaniels (well one of them) in The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp:

The stars I unfortunately had to sacrifice for this image are Deborah Kerr and Roger Livesey

Maybe the partially-obscured spaniel in the previous capture is the centre of attention here?:

I'm afraid I don't have Contraband ... or even Peeping Tom (who wasn't a cat!) in my collection.

Another photo of Dorothy (Judy Garland) and Toto (Terry the Dog), for Billy:

I noticed Frank Morgan in one of your earlier pictures, The Wizard of Oz himself:

I see Hummies has done his first along-the-way capture here! That episode of

The Persuaders, Read and Destroy, turned up in your Nigel Green post as well!

Another famous TV Dog was Timmy in The Famous Five (1978-1979), Timmy was played by Toddy Woodgate who also played Toby the Dog in the Sherlock Holmes episode The Sign Of Four (1968) from the late 1960's Peter Cushing Sherlock Holmes series.

From I Know Where I'm Going (Do you know which one's which?):

No, even Columba Powell's not sure - and he grew up with them

I only remember one dog in A Matter of Life and Death and he doesn't resemble either:
Erik & Spangle were in the scene with Dr Reeves in the camera obscura. They perked up when Doc Reeves wondered out loud if the butcher had any offal

That black lab on the beach is facing away from the camera when it's heard to bark at Peter (David Niven). But it isn't really barking. A dog's body strains when it barks and there's no sign of any movement in its body. They even dubbed the dog!

That's where one of them disgraced himself - and relieved himself at the top of the stairs. Maybe that's why they're called Cocker Spaniels - because he cocked a leg?

I'm afraid I don't have Contraband ... or even Peeping Tom (who wasn't a cat!) in my collection.

The spaniels are seen in Contraband where Valerie Hobson and Conrad Veidt go to the aunt's house in London. They greet the dogs as they go in.

There is a single spaniel seen in Peeping Tom but I'm not sure if that's one of Erik or Spangle or the later Johnson, or even if it is Powell's dog

It is funny when people add their surnames to that of their pets! Some great photos here though - and I never noticed the dogs starring in the P&P films before!

Whenever I've taken my pets to the vet they always use the pet's name followed by my surname.

There are lots of dogs in P&P films. There are also lots of birds of prey. How many P&P films can you remember that had birds of prey in them?

There's a cat in The Small Back Room. Kathleen Byron told us that it was her own cat - Snowball

I tried to find a suitable picture of Daisy the Dog from the Blondie movie series from the 1940s, but couldn't find anything suitable. The dog was very funny, much better than the deadpan Buck from Married With Children, and I found this link that agrees with me.

Not really. A [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_of_prey]bird of prey[/ame] is a bird that attacks (or preys upon) other creatures like hawks, falcons, eagles and owls.

    Lovely creatures
