Hi, does any one have any pics/screen caps of Henry Kendall when he was a bit older, say from The Voice of Merrill or An Alligator Named Daisy? There only ever seem to be pictures of him from the thirties on Google image.

    Many thanks in advance.

For those interested in Kendall he did publish memoirs (presumably very circumscribed) and there is a section on him in Michael Blakemores.

Thanks for that, Windthrop. Much appreciated! Someone has uploaded the first 10 minutes or so of Shadow of the Cat on to Youtube and I was just watching it the other day.

I remember in the 90s Channel Four used to show all kinds of British films of the thirties late at night, such as Bulldog Jack (with Jack Hulbert) the Phantom Light (with Gordon Harker). They also showed a number of comedy thrillers with Henry Kendall and I remember him fondly. Shame a lot of those films still aren't available on DVD.

IIRC John Mills' autobiography has a, not altogether surprising, anecdote about him. I like him very much in The Ghost Camera and Rich and Strange but he wasn't really cut out to be a romantic lead. He was a huge stage star though.

Oh yes he had talent as a comic actor and also as a director as the Blakemore bio testifies (and MB doesn't pull punches when he doesn't like someone).

He also warrants a brief mention in Matthew Sweet's Shepperton Babylon.
