I love Nuts in May. I know people like that.
Recently I re-watched the box set of The Booze Cruise, best comedy dramas i think ITV have churned out in years, but I never realised just how good an actor Brian Murphy is, everything I watched him in previously he seemed to play down beaten characters. I remember him playing a brilliant Mr Foskett in One foot, and a good role in Jonathan Creek, sadly he ended up in Last of the Summer Wine.

Brian Murphy is about 76/77 years old now - I imagine he does what suits him. He was in the recent series of Hustle and has just completed filming The Estate starring Sean Brosnan.
He's married to his second wife - actress and crime writer, Linda Regan, famous for her role as 'April' in Hi-De-Hi.
Linda has her own website: Linda Regan On-Line
That was actually Roger Sloman - with Alison Steadman.Originally Posted by quippy

Oops. You are all absolutely right. For some reason I had it fixed in my dull head that it was Brian Murphy. Bloody Hell!
Apologies all round.

Anyway, Brian and Yootha made Mrs Quippy laugh till she couldn't speak once.
During an episode of George and Mildred Yootha's laid in bed perusing a large catalogue. She passes it to Brian and says "George, what would you do if I came into the bedroom in this?". George looks at it and says "What? A golf cart?".
He was excellent it Mrs Merton and Malcolm too. He was the man who came to visit her bedridden husband upstairs - who you never see. Brian was almost certainly in love with her, I thought. He brought an understated emotion to the part. Lovely actor.
Brian is still a leading voice on BBC Radio Drama's...he is also a big film collector on all formats.
Film Man.
Definitely a much underrated actor. i always love to see him as George Roper in "Man About The House" and "George And Mildred". He has also played many other good parts. I especially liked him in "The Devils".
wellendcanons.
I agree with GRAEME regarding his performance in Mrs Merton and Malcolm. However, when he appeared in On Your Way Riley (as Arthur Lucan/Old Mother Riley) it was the first time I became aware of how good an actor he really was.
He seems very popular, in the Booze Crusie 3 he has me literally crying laughing.
He was excellent in that.Originally Posted by GRAEME
IIRC, he sang The Verve's "The Drugs Don't Work" at Mr Merton's bedside; it was priceless!
He was excellent as the slimy surgeon in The Devils.

I remember him being rather good as the Showman/Narrator in the excellent stage version of The Invisible Man that came out of Stratford East a few years ago.
During a (long) period of 'resting' I worked in a pizza restaurant and Brian used to come in on occasion. He is a really nice bloke, nothing 'starry' about him at all, and he was always polite and cheerful.
I remember when I was at school he was spotted shopping in the local high street during a lunchbreak and to escape the crowd outside the shop they let him out of the back entrance - only to face another crowd![]()
Brian Murphy has never been under-rated in Smudge Towers. George Roper is a simply sublime signature role.
Long may he keep working!
